An iPhone filter for the whole phone.
Safari is only one door into the internet. A real iPhone filter also covers supported apps, DNS and images, and it stays on after setup.
When people search for an iPhone filter, they usually mean one of two things: a parental-control setting inside Screen Time, or a filter that covers the phone itself. Both can be useful. They are not the same level of protection.
Screen Time vs a managed filter
Screen Time is built into iOS and is free. It can limit websites, apps and purchases, and it is a good first layer for a young child. Its limits are also well known: settings can be changed by someone with the passcode, some apps have their own browsers, and the protection is only as strong as the account holding it.
A managed filter uses a supervised profile. It can lock the filtering on, force DNS, restrict the App Store, and apply content rules that the user cannot remove. That is the difference between asking the phone to behave and making it behave.
What filttr covers
- Safari: approved sites only, or category blocking with adult-content filtering.
- Supported in-app browsing: links opened inside apps still go through the filter where iOS allows it.
- DNS: encrypted DNS is forced on, blocking explicit domains, ads and whole categories.
- Apps: the App Store can be locked and an approved list pushed to the phone.
- Images: Image Guard checks pictures in Safari on the device and covers what should not be seen.
What it cannot do
No iPhone filter can read the contents of every encrypted app. A filter can block an app, block its network access or filter the web pages it opens; it cannot see every message inside WhatsApp or every frame of a video inside an app. Be suspicious of anyone who promises otherwise.
Filtering without breaking the phone
The goal is not to make the iPhone unusable. Maps, banking, email, work tools, weather and Torah sites should keep working. filttr lets you choose the level for each device: a stricter phone for a bochur, a more open one for a parent, and different rules for different apps.
Setup
Sign up and run filttr Setup on a Windows computer with the iPhone connected. The phone is prepared and the filter is pushed automatically. After that, changes arrive over the internet. Full-service setup is available if you prefer us to do it.
Frequently asked questions
Is an iPhone filter the same as Screen Time?
No. Screen Time is Apple's built-in parental control. filttr uses a supervised, managed profile that can lock filtering on and cover more of the phone.
Does it filter Safari only?
No. filttr also uses DNS, app restrictions and Image Guard. Safari is one layer, not the whole product.
Can it see inside every app?
No. No iOS filter can read every encrypted app's content. It can block apps and domains, filter Safari, and cover images in Safari.
Will my banking apps still work?
Usually yes, if they are allowed in your level. You can request an app or site if something needed is blocked.
