Kosher filter

The kosher filter that stays on.

A real kosher filter protects the whole phone — not just one browser — and stays in place after the setup is done. Here is what that means, and how filttr does it.

Most people who say “I have a filter” mean one of three very different things: a browser extension, a DNS/VPN block, or a managed profile that locks the phone. They look similar on the surface. They are not similar in practice.

What a kosher filter should do

  • Cover the whole phone. Safari is only one way in. Apps have their own browsers, feeds, video and images.
  • Stay on. A filter that can be switched off, deleted or bypassed with a VPN is a suggestion, not a filter.
  • Keep normal life working. Banking, email, work tools, maps, weather and Torah sites should not become a daily fight.
  • Be manageable. When something is blocked, there should be a simple way to request it and a real person behind the decision.

Browser filter vs DNS filter vs managed phone

A browser filter only watches one browser. Another browser, an in-app browser or a social app can go around it. A DNS or VPN filter covers the whole connection, but it only sees domains — it cannot clean up an app’s feed or block one part of an app. A managed phone profile can lock the device, restrict the App Store, force DNS and apply a Safari content filter that the user cannot remove.

filttr uses the managed-phone approach on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The phone is supervised during setup, the filter is locked on, and changes are pushed to the device over the internet. That is why the protection survives a restart, a new Wi-Fi network and an attempt to remove it.

What filttr filters

  • Safari and supported in-app browsing — approved sites only, or category blocking with adult-content filtering.
  • Encrypted DNS — blocks explicit content, ads and whole categories at the network level, forced on.
  • Apps — App Store restrictions and an approved-app list pushed to the phone.
  • Images — Image Guard checks pictures in Safari on the phone and covers what should not be seen.
  • Bypass tricks — VPN creation, Private Relay and profile removal are restricted.

Strong by default, not one-size-fits-all

Every home is different. A bochur’s phone might be locked to a short list of apps with no browser. A parent’s phone might keep a filtered Safari and a wider set of tools. filttr lets each device have its own level, managed from one dashboard, without buying a second phone or doing a factory reset.

Setup without the headache

Sign up, run the filttr Setup app on a Windows computer, and plug in the iPhone. The phone is prepared and supervised in a few minutes, then the filter is pushed to it automatically. After that, updates arrive without the cable. If you would rather have it done for you, we offer full-service setup.

Frequently asked questions

Is filttr a browser filter?

No. filttr is a managed filter for the whole Apple device: Safari, supported in-app browsing, DNS, apps and images. A browser-only filter can be bypassed by opening another browser or app.

Can the filter be removed?

The phone is supervised and the filter is locked on. Common removal and bypass methods, including VPN creation and Private Relay, are restricted. No filter is literally impossible to defeat with physical access, but filttr is designed so ordinary use cannot switch it off.

Does it work on Android?

No. filttr is built for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Android needs a different kind of device management.

Do I need to factory reset my iPhone?

No. filttr is designed to go on the phone you already have, with your photos, apps and data staying in place.

What happens when a site is blocked?

You request it from your filttr dashboard. Clear requests can be reviewed by AI in seconds; sensitive or unclear ones go to a person. If approved, it is pushed to the phone.
