Block TikTok

How to block TikTok on iPhone.

Deleting the app is the easy part. Keeping it off — and covering the browser version — is what actually works.

TikTok is designed to keep pulling attention. For many families, the right answer is not “less TikTok” but no TikTok on the phone. Here is how to make that stick.

Option 1: Delete and prevent reinstalling

Delete the app, then lock the App Store so it cannot be installed again. On iOS, Screen Time can require a passcode for installing apps; a managed profile can restrict the App Store completely. Deleting without locking the store is a temporary fix.

Option 2: Block the web version too

TikTok works in Safari. Add tiktok.com and its subdomains to a blocklist, or use a filtered DNS profile. A Safari content filter can block the domain and the app’s in-app browser where iOS applies it.

Option 3: Use a managed filter

filttr can lock the App Store, keep TikTok off the approved-app list, force filtered DNS and filter Safari. The restriction is applied to the phone and cannot be switched off by the user. If you need an exception later, you can request it through the dashboard.

What about TikTok in other apps?

Links to TikTok can appear in messages, social apps and search results. A Safari/content filter can block the destination when it opens in a filtered browser; it cannot inspect every frame inside another app. Blocking the app and the domain covers the main routes.

Check the workarounds

  • App Store: can the user install it again?
  • Safari: does tiktok.com load?
  • Other browsers: are they installed or allowed?
  • VPN/Private Relay: can the user bypass DNS?

Make it stick

The strongest setup is a managed phone: App Store locked, approved apps only, DNS forced and the filter removal protected. If you want help choosing the level for your family, contact us.

Frequently asked questions

Does deleting TikTok block it permanently?

No. The user can reinstall it unless the App Store is restricted. Lock installation as well.

Can I block TikTok but keep Safari?

Yes. Put TikTok on the blocklist and keep a filtered Safari for approved sites.

Will a DNS block stop the app?

DNS can block TikTok domains, but the app may still open cached content. Locking the App Store and the app list is stronger.

Can filttr block TikTok on iPad too?

Yes. filttr manages iPhone, iPad and Mac.
