How to block apps on an iPhone
Deleting an app is not blocking it. If the App Store is open, it comes back. Here is how to make an app stay off.
There are three layers to blocking an app: removing it, preventing reinstall, and covering its web version. Most people only do the first.
Screen Time
Screen Time can block app installation and limit categories. It is free and useful, but the passcode holder can change it. It also does not stop every web route.
Managed profile
A supervised profile can lock the App Store, allow only an approved app list and prevent the user from removing the restriction. This is the stronger layer.
Don’t forget the browser
Many apps have a website. Block the domain as well, or use filtered DNS, or the user can open the web version in Safari.
Apps with in-app browsers
Some apps open links inside their own browser. A Safari filter does not always see those. The reliable fix is to remove the app or block its network access, not just the website.
In filttr
You choose the approved apps, lock the App Store, force DNS and filter Safari. Per-device levels let a stricter phone have fewer apps. If a blocked app is needed later, it can be requested and reviewed.
