Kosher filter

Do you need a factory reset to filter an iPhone?

Usually not. The reset myth comes from older setup methods. Here is what actually requires a reset and what does not.

People are often told that a real filter requires erasing the phone and setting it up again. That was true for some older supervision methods. It is not the only way anymore.

What supervision actually needs

Supervision is what lets a filter be locked and managed. Modern tools can prepare an existing phone for supervision without wiping it, then apply the managed profile. The important part is the management state, not the erase.

When a reset may be needed

  • The phone has a hand-installed profile that blocks management.
  • A previous filter left a broken management state.
  • The device is not in a state that can be supervised.

Those are exceptions. A competent setup should tell you before starting.

What filttr does

filttr Setup prepares the existing iPhone and pushes the filter. Your photos, apps, messages and settings stay. After setup, updates are remote. See the setup guide.

Back up anyway

Any device change deserves a backup. Not because filttr erases the phone, but because backups are basic prudence.
